I. Understanding dual materiality

One of the founding principles of the CSRD is the notion of double materiality, which represents an innovative approach to corporate reporting. This concept requires you to examine both :

  • Impact materiality (or inside-out)

  •
  • This assesses the direct impact of a company's activities on the environment, society and external stakeholders.

  •
  • Financial materiality (or outside-in)

  •
  • This examines how external factors such as climate, regulations or social change influence a company's financial performance.

  •

In our webinar, Mathias Sorez will explain how your teams can effectively identify these two dimensions of materiality, by implementing analysis processes adapted to CSRD requirements. The aim is to simplify this process, by providing you with tools to map your activities and prioritize the issues that matter most to your company.

II. Performing a gap analysis

Thegap analysis is an essential step in assessing your level of compliance with the new obligations imposed by the CSRD. It involves comparing the requirements of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), which contain over 1178 data points, with the reporting practices already in place at your company.

During the webinar, we discussed how to carry out this gap analysis in a structured way. Mathias Sorez showed how to identify gaps in your ESG data collection processes and how to structure an action plan to fill them. Whether you need to integrate new indicators or strengthen your data management systems, the gap analysis will enable you to define a clear roadmap towards compliance.

To prepare for CSRD, it's crucial to understand dual materiality and implement a rigorous gap analysis. These two steps are the foundations on which any CSRD compliance process rests. Not only do they enable you to meet legal requirements, they also position your company as a responsible player when it comes to sustainability.
